The Machine embroidery Group holds monthly meetings on the third Saturday of each month at the Spencer Court Day Centre. The meetings are held from 10 am to 4 pm

I have as long as I can remember been encouraged to stitch, both my grandmother and mother did lots of handicrafts Knitting, Crochet, Embroidery and machine stitching. They both did quite a lot of design but they said that this was adapting to use up material and wools etc. I first started machine sewing when I was training to be a nurse and could not afford ready made clothes. When I married I lived all over the world, this all brought me in contact with other cultures which gave me a great love of colour and textiles. I am also a gardener and have a great affinity to plants which I find that I use in my work. When I came to live in this area I had the privilege of meeting Heather at the Kirkham flower show and saw some of the work done by the stitch club, I did in fact join the group and that is where all my recent work started. I completed a City & Guilds Course in Machine Embroidery. Although I am not a teacher I have throughout my nursing career always taught student nurses and worked as a tutor in Gambia

The Machine Embroidery Course

The start of the course I will teach how to clean and care for the machine. Advise on threads needles and any other tools needed to use for machine embroidery. Every meeting I will give printed directions and materials to use for the first few sessions until everyone feels confident to purchase threads etc.

I am looking forward to helping stitchers to expand their use of a sewing machine and hope that they find it as exciting as I do.
